RAPONI CONSALVI DUO , Classical music from Italy

Despite being very young, this brand new duo of guitarists comprising Stefano Raponi and Antonio Consalvi achieved a standing ovation right from their very first performances, which gives an idea of the successful career which lies in store for them.
The two musicians, each internationally famous in their own right, are very different in their character, musical path and training. Raponi possesses outstanding technical qualities and an innate sense of music, which enables him to tackle music from different eras. Consalvi, endowed with an excellent general musical education, has developed various experiences of playing in a group, resulting in a preference for music from the 19th Century, and also modern and contemporary.

In their current line up, the two guitarists have achieved a perfect balance between virtuosity and musicality, between melody and harmony, between timbre and dynamics. They are a well matched duo, made so as to delight audiences from all over the world; consequently this duo is ranked amongst the most outstanding on the contemporary guitar music scene.

This quartet with a varied line up - 2 guitars, violin, doublebass with occasional overlapping voices) has built up a repertoire which fully reflects the diverse aspirations of its members. “Jazz manouche”, blue note jazz, the bossa nova, ballads, French popular music are a few of the musical, cross-border genres expressed by original compositions.

This rich music is one of the best ways to put you in true party mood, notwithstanding a certain dose of spirituality. Sharing music with amazing vitality is at the heart of their performance.
So with their festive style, the Caragoss quartet resounds with touches of humour, originality and camaraderie.

QUATUOR BARRIOS, Latin American music from France and Bolivia

The quatuor Agustin Barrios is a unique line-up comprising four virtuosi: Gérard Verba, Christine Petit-D'heilly, Adrien Maza, classical guitarists, winners of 12 international prizes and José Mendoza from Bolivia, a versatile musician playing traditional instruments. The maturity of their compositions is recognized by all those which enjoy the richness and the mystery of the almost infinite harmonic combinations of the guitar. This meeting gave rise to an original style of music, clever blend of authentic melodies and rhythms made up of personal arrangements and pieces specially composed for them.

The music which results from this blend of classical and folk was given a warm welcome throughout the world during the group’s many tours in Europe and Latin America.
Their skilful playing leads us into a world of emotion, rhythm and poetry through an enchanting trip across Latin America. At the heart of it all lies the guitar which has to be tamed before being able to express itself with soul.

Mystere Trio proposes a new approach to Jazz, a genuine “Swing around the world” making us travel from the Balkans to South America.
Welcome to this imaginary trip through gypsy swing afro-jazz, and flamenco.
The originality of the music resides in the two guitar players (electro-acoustic) and a drummer – percussionist, offering a balance where each musician intersperses between rhythm and chorus.
The trio’s music rapidly comes to life, thanks to the quality of their compositions or the interesting combinations which emanate from it.
The result is that swing is everywhere, with a warm and festive jazz sound that the band clearly enjoys and shares with the audience. Their enjoyment can be seen and heard.

QUIMERA MUSIC - from the Andes- Ecuador

Saturday 26 th April gala concerts  at The Minotaure theatre 8.30 p.m

This Ecuadorian group was created in 1982 aiming to promote traditional Latin American popular music, particularly from Ecuador. This cross breed of music was totally unknown by the younger generations and almost forgotten by the older ones. The group, made up of three guitarists (Louis Rameix, Vincio Gallardo, and Pedro Granda) and a vocalist (Patricia Rameix) has revived musical genres, such as the albazo, the sanjuanito, the pasillo, the aire tipico, and so on.

Never before Quimera had Ecuador known such enthusiasm for its own traditional music. This music was sent right to the top of the bill in all the Ecuadorian cities where Quimera performed, as well as being broadcast on radio and television, media which, until then, had played only pre-packaged music on air. Quimera appeared with class, subtle arrangements, lyrics which read like true poetry, distinctive melodies and rich harmonies which make you feel like dancing.

These musicians have performed in concert alongside famous artists like Mercedes Sosa, Alberto Cortes, Omaro Portuondo and Ibrahim Ferrer (both from the Buena Vista Social Club) and many others. They have performed in Latin America, in Europe and in the USA. Vendôme will be their very first festival in France.
